The Tourism Department of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, organized a field visit to Fort Cochin on 08th June 2022. The journey started from campus at 9.30 am and reached the destination at about 11 am. Fort Kochi is the most popular tourist destination for both domestic and international visitors to Kerala and is among the most visited tourist destinations in India. As per Kerala’s Tourism Department, the domestic tourist footfall in the city was more than 23 million in 2017. Popularly known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, the city is one of the finest natural harbours in the world and was the hub of the world spice trade for many centuries. Old Kochi (presently called West Kochi) loosely refers to a group of islands which comprise Willingdon Island, Fort Kochi, and Mattancherry. The city derives its name from the Malayalam word ‘Kochazhi’ meaning small lagoon. The field trip covered many areas in and around Fort Kochi. It was a wonderful experience to gain practical knowledge in theoretical class.
