Financial literacy for students is an important tool to improve the financial capability of our youth and communities. Students should be taught how to handle money—both at home and in educational institutions. The Post Graduate Department of Commerce identified the need and came up with the introduction of a new cell in the institution – Financial Literacy Cell – Educating and Empowering young minds towards sound financial decisions. The cell aims to create an awareness of financing and related dynamic concepts to the students of both arts and science stream so as to equip them to manage their funds efficiently and compete with current challenges and handle risks.

The financial literacy cell was inaugurated on 17th August, 2021, by Dr. Cini Kurian, Principal of Al – Ameen College which was followed by a technical session handled by Mr. Vipin G, Assistant General Manager, Online Products & Services, Geojit Financial Services Ltd. The webinar was jointly coordinated by faculty coordinator Dr. Leena Varghese and Ms. Veena Sukumaran. Vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Shemina Hamsa.

The resource person for the day was an expert in online trading and has taken the students to a broader perspective of investment avenues. He elaborated on the market conditions, volatility of stock exchanges, and role of SEBI etc in a very modest and lucid manner. The students were taken to a live online platform which helped them to watch lively what happens in an online stock market, pricing of securities etc. The session was highly interactive and students enjoyed a lot, it was learning through doing experience. The resource person also clarified the doubts and addressed the queries raised by the students at the end of the session.
