The Ernakulam district-level launch of World Forestry Day took place at Al Ameen College Edathala, organized by the Forestry Club, Nature Club, and Bhoomitra Sena Club in association with the Forestry Department – Ernakulam Division on March 21,2023.

The event began with a warm welcome by Sri A Jayamadhavan, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Social Forestry Division, Ernakulam, and was presided over by Al Ameen College Principal Dr. Cini Kurian. Smt. Preeja Kunjumon, president of the Edathala grama panchayath, inaugurated the event and informed the attendees about the significance of World Forestry Day in 2023, which focuses on “Forests and Health.” The numerous benefits of forests for our health, including air purification, food production, carbon capture to combat climate change, and water purification, were emphasized. The responsibility to protect these invaluable natural resources was emphasized during the event.

Highlighting the celebration, the Vanamithra Award 2023 was presented to Mr. Joby Varghese by Sri Ravikumar Meena, Divisional Forest Officer for Malayattoor. Felicitations were given by Smt. Chinnu Janardhanan, Assistant Forest Conservator , Perumbavoor, and Sri Manu Sathyan, Divisional Forest Officer , Ernakulam.

To engage the students, a quiz competition was held in the college auditorium, with Prasanna Kumar, a forest officer, serving as the quiz master. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students. The program concluded with a variety of student-led cultural activities, making it a memorable and insightful celebration.
