Wetlands are distinct ecosystems that are flooded by water. The primary fact that differentiate wetlands from terrestrial land is the characteristic vegetation of the aquatic plants.  Wetlands are considered among the most biologically diverse of all ecosystems, serving as home to a wide range of plant and animal species. Wetland day is celebrated on 2nd february 2022 with a theme ‘wetland action for people and nature’.

The Department of Biotechnology organized an intercollegiate video making competition on 3rd February 2022 as a part of World Wetland Day celebration 2022. The coordinator of the programme was Ms. Chinnu P S.

   The main aim of the programme was to provide awareness about the importance of wetlands and the ecosystem associated with it. Wetlands contribute a number of functions that benefit people like water purification, ground water replenishment, stabilization of shoreline and storm protection.

  The guidelines of the programme include :

  • The length of the video should be less than 3 minutes
  • Video must be related to the theme of the programme
  • Entries should be send to the mail id : [email protected]
  • The deadline for the submission is 07-02-2022

Out of the 20 entries received, four of them were shortlisted according to the guidelines. The video made by Mr. Adithya Sudarsanan of MMNSS College, Konni, Pathanamthitta  was selected as the best of the entries. He was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 500 and a certificate of appreciation.  The programme was a grant success and come up with the most favourable response.
