The Department of Physics, Al-Ameen College, organized a webinar titled “Enormous Windows to the Universe” on 6th March 2021. The webinar was conducted to commemorate National Science Day celebrated every year on 28th February to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by the great scientist C V Raman.

The webinar started at 11 am, Asst Prof. Shania Jose welcomed the resource person Dr Nijil Mankuzhiyil, Astrophysical Sciences Division, BARC, Mumbai to the session. Dr Nijil opened the windows to the Universe by taking the students through a brief history of how the early scientists estimated the dimensions of the planets and stars, the invention of the Telescope, the detection of cosmic rays and so on. He offered a detailed overview of the different types of telescopes that are in use in the field of Astrophysics. Dr Nijil also discussed Cherenkov Effect, Synchrotron emission, Neutrino emission, ICE CUBE telescope, Multimessenger Astronomy etc. The webinar was aimed to provide the students of the department, a peek into the world of Astrophysics, progress made in this field and the scope in near future. Faculty of the department and students of BSc Physics and MSc Physics attended the program.The programme concluded with a fruitful Q&A session followed by a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Feba David, a student of I MSc Physics.
