Learning to drive is a fantastic, lifelong skill. It makes a person more confident, making life much easier. For women, mastering driving can significantly increase convenience and independence. It represents a milestone, reflecting maturity and self-reliance in one’s journey through life. The Department of Economics coordinated a project for women empowerment ‘She Drives’– to teach the female students of Al-Ameen college an additional skill, driving. The objective of this project is to make girl students more confident and independent. This will enable them to learn an additional skill when they graduate from this college. The inauguration of She Drives was held on 8th March 2021 on International Women’s Day. 35 girls obtained their driving license under this project in 2023-24. Anas Driving School, Aluva is the institution which is associated with the project. A key feature of the program is that students receive driving instruction at a discounted rate, with some economically disadvantaged girls being admitted free of charge.
