As part of the Department of English’s extension activities, a news broadcast was produced and uploaded to the college’s YouTube channel. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about pressing local issues: the traffic congestion at Kompara near our college and the improper waste disposal practices in public areas within Edathala Panchayath.

 Traffic Block at Kompara

The broadcast highlighted the severe traffic congestion at Kompara, which has become a daily ordeal for students, staff, and local residents. Through interviews with commuters and local authorities, the broadcast shed light on the primary causes of the congestion, including:

– Narrow Roads:The main road at Kompara is too narrow to accommodate the high volume of traffic, especially during peak hours.

Lack of Traffic Signals: The absence of traffic signals and proper signage contributes to the chaotic traffic flow.

Encroachments : Unauthorized parking and street vendors encroaching on the roadway further exacerbate the situation.

The program included suggestions from local authorities and urban planners on possible solutions, such as road widening, installation of traffic signals, and stricter enforcement of parking regulations.

Waste Disposal Issues in Edathala Panchayath

The second segment of the broadcast addressed the ongoing problem of improper waste disposal in Edathala Panchayath. The news team visited various locations where waste was found scattered in public areas, causing health hazards and environmental degradation. Key points covered in this segment included:

Health Risks: Interview with local healthcare professionals emphasized the potential health risks posed by unmanaged waste, including the spread of diseases and pollution of water sources.

– Community Impact: Residents expressed their concerns about the impact of waste on their daily lives, including foul odors and the attraction of pests.
