The Department of B com Computer Application organized a National Webinar on Human Rights: Concepts and Theories at 11 am on 1st October 2020. The program started with the introductory note of Dr Mary P U (HOD), while the session was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr Cini Kurian. The keynote address was delivered by Adv Biju V K from the Supreme Court of India. The audience to the seminar comprised of students from IHM, Chennai, B K College, Amalagiri, the final year students of Al Ameen, and teachers of Al Ameen and some other nearby colleges.

Speaking at the Webinar, Adv Biju V K highlighted the preamble to the Constitution of India, which ensures all the basic rights to the citizens of India. It says, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India in to a Sovereign, Democratic, Republic nation and to secure to all its citizens:

JUSTICE: social, economic and political;

LIBERTY: of thought, expression, belief and worship;

EQUALITY: of status and opportunity; and

FRATERNTY: assuring the dignity of the individual and unity of the Nation.

Besides, he detailed about the Human rights in India, under the Human rights Act of 1993.  Human rights essentially centers around the rights relating to life, liberty, equality, and dignity of the individuals guaranteed by the Constitution or embodied in the International Covenants and enforced by courts in India. Throughout the speech, the Advocate was sharing the facts with which he encountered the opposition during the hearing of cases like Sabarimala, Triple Talaq, Church, Devadasi etc., which was a new experience and motivation to the student community.
