National Science Day is celebrated every year on February 28 to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian physicist Sir ChandrashekharaVenkata Raman. The theme for the celebration this year (2017) was “Science and Technology for Specially Abled Persons”. Department of Chemistry organized a documentary show for the students in connection with the science day celebration. Jishnu of III BSc Petrochemicals gave a brief introduction on science
day and its importance. Following this, two documentaries were screened. First one was a briefing on the biography of Prof. Stephen Hawkings. He being a handicapped scientist can be a good motivation for fighting the physical challenges that one can have. Next, was a science demonstration video by Arvind Gupta, an IITian who pioneers in the field of making scientific toys from scrap. This video was demonstrated to motivate the students to make scientific toys from the scrap materials around them to help physically and economically challenged children around them. The session was concluded by a Vote of thanks from Akshay T. Jacob, II BSc. Petrochemicals. The studentsthouroughly enjoyed these documentaries
