A Session On Career Guidance and MG University Hons Degree on the Mahatma Gandhi University Undergraduate Programme (Honours) Degree Programme was held on April 24, 2024, at Al-Ameen Public School, Edappally. The event was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Al-Ameen College, with the aim of familiarizing school students with the newly introduced honours degree programme under Mahatma Gandhi University and its career opportunities. The session highlighted the key features, structure, and career opportunities presented by the honours programme, which is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of higher education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The campaign was well-attended by school students from Al-Ameen Public School and nearby institutions, who were eager to gain insights into the new academic framework and its career opportunities.
Inaugural Session
The programme began with a warm welcome address delivered by Ms.Sujatha S, Principal of Al-Ameen Public School, Edappally. In her address, Ms.Sujatha expressed her appreciation for the initiative taken by Al-Ameen College to create awareness among school students about the honours degree programme. She emphasized the importance of this session in helping students towards informed decisions about their higher education. The event was presided over by Adv. T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan, Manager of Al-Ameen Public School. In his presidential address, he highlighted the significant role that teachers play in shaping the academic careers of students. He also acknowledged the importance of being aware of the latest academic developments, such as the introduction of the honours degree programme, to ensure that students are given the best opportunities for future growth.
Keynote Address by Dr.Junaid Rahman
The keynote address was delivered by Dr.Junaid Rahman, a prominent educational leader and visionary. Dr. Rahman stressed the importance of upgrading and restructuring the higher education system in line with global standards. He elaborated on the role of the NEP 2020 and its emphasis on a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to education, which is now being realized through initiatives like the MGU UGP (Honours) Degree Programme.
Dr. Rahman urged the teachers to take an active role in guiding students towards such programmes, which provide enhanced academic exposure and research opportunities. He concluded his address by applauding the efforts of Al-Ameen College and IQAC for organizing the awareness campaign, recognizing it as an essential step towards bridging the gap between school and higher education.
Technical Session by Dr.Sreeja S
The core session of the programme was conducted by Dr.Sreeja S, Head of the Department of Physics, Al-Ameen College, and a Master Trainer from Mahatma Gandhi University. Dr.Sreeja, with her vast experience in the academic sector and her role in the honours programme, provided an in-depth presentation about FYUGP and NEP 2020.
The session was further enriched by felicitations from Dr.Cini Kurian, Principal of Al- Ameen College, and Dr.Leena Varghese, IQAC Coordinator of Al-Ameen College. Both speakers expressed their gratitude to the organizers and participants for their involvement in the campaign.
