Mushrooms represent microbial technology that recycles agriculture residues into food and manure. Mushrooms provide several important nutrients that are needed by the body. Mushroom cultivation can help reduce vulnerability  to poverty and strengthens livelihoods through the generation of a fast yielding and nutritional source of food and a reliable source of income.

The Department of Biotechnology in association with IEDC, SES-REC, IIC has organized  training workshop on mushroom production technology  on 15 February  2022.The coordinator of the program was Ms.Sanooja MS.

The major objective of the programme  was to provide guidelines for mushroom cultivation so that cultivation on extensive scale can help  solve many problems of global importance such as protein shortage, resource recovery and reuse as part of environmental management.

The training was offered to all students of the college. The programme was inaugurated by Ms.Indu G ,Vice Principal, Al-Ameen College, Edathala. Mr.A Sreekumar, director of Veggie White Mushrooms was the master of the session . The syllabus of the programme includes; types of mushrooms,edible mushrooms,economic values of mushrooms etc.He dealt with the normal cultivation as well as the tissue culture practices of mushroom cultivation. The further training was scheduled for a period of 3 months and 50 students from various department were registered for the programme. Students were provided with a hands on training on mushroom bed preparation ,spawning and maintenance of mushroom and the programme was a grant success .
