Topological Data Analysis is a recently emerging method for analyzing large scale data using the geometry and methods from algebraic topology. TDA mainly focuses on recovering the topological and geometric features of an unknown space by embedding its sample in a known topological space. As the topic is highly relevant in the field of research, Department of Mathematics organized a 3-day online faculty development programme on the same, from 3rd to 5th September, 2020. The programme was scheduled for 3-days and all the sessions were handled by eminent researchers in the field.
The first session on “Introduction to Persistent Homology” was handled by Dr. Sunil Jacob John, Professor, NIT Calicut on 3rd September, 2020. It was Dr. Ali Akbar. K, Assistant Professor, Central University, Kasargod who presented a session on “Symbolic Dynamics” on the 4th of September. Finally, the last session hosted on the 5th, was handled by Dr. Vinod Kumar. P. B, Professor, RSET, Kakkanad. The topic of presentation was “Data and Shape.” The programme, which was officially inaugurated by Dr. Cini Kurian, Principal, Al-Ameen College, Edathala on 03/09/2020, had about 95 faculties from various institutions across India attending the Programme, thus making it even more wonderful.
