The NSS unit of Al-Ameen College Edathala organized a seven day residential on 23-12-2016 to 29-12-2016 for both boys and girls. The first discussion was on the topic ‘Importance of Organic Farming’ by the NSS Programme Officer, Prof Abdul Salam. The formal inauguration meeting was the next day an d was attended by Ms. Mumthas (President , Vazhakulam Block Panchayath , Ms. Abida Shereef (Chairman, Standing Committee, Edathala Panchayath), Adv. T.P.M Ibrahim Khan, Chairman Al-Ameen Educational Trust. PTA Vice President, P.K Ali and the Principal.

The afternoon session handled by Ms. Shabeeb Rahman Calicut, aimed at creating self confidence. Mr A.P Muralidharan from Kerala Shasthra Sahithya Parishath conducted an interactive session of ‘Green Awareness and Eco-Feminism. The last session of the first day was ‘sky watch’ organized by Dr N. Shaji, Head of the Physics
Department, Maharajas College Ernakulum and Dr Sreeja. S, Assistant professor in Physics, Al-Ameen College.

The second day started with yoga practice demonstrated by Dr. Dino Varghese, Physical Education Department. Prof Abdul Karim, Former Principal, Al-Ameen College shared his experiences as an NSS programme Officer and motivated the volunteers by singing nostalgic songs. Prof A.A Mohammed Thahar Trustee, AlAmeen Educational Trust spoke on Society, Mental Health and Youth.

An open discussion on ‘Currency Demonetization’ Merits and Demerits was coordinated by Prof Sasidharan ,vice principal, Al-Ameen College Edathala. Sri M.K Abdu, President, Service Co-operative Bank, Edathala. Prof Abdul Hakeem, Head of the Economics Department. Sri P.K Abdul Rahman, Rtd joint RTO also took part. The rest
of the day was utilized for the preparation of the magazine as well as cultural activities.

On 26-12-2016 after yoga practice, a session was handled by Mr. M. R Surendran, Secretary, District Library Council on the importance of book reading in moulding the life of a person. The next session was by V.T Job, Civil Excise of Officer on the topic ‘Drug and Teenagers’ in which he described in the evil effects of drugs among teenagers. As part of swatch Bharath a cleaning programme from the front of the college to combara was tackled. A group discussion on ‘Local Development, Environment and Women Empowerment’ in which the progress and prospects of Edathala Grama Panchayath as well As various schemes of women empowerment was moderated by Sri K.M Shamsudheen, Treasurer, Al-Ameen Educational Trust. The following Panchayath members took part president, Mrs. Sajitha Abbas, president and other ward members Mrs Abida Shereef, Sri A A Mahin, Sri C.M Ashraf and Sri Rejiprakash took part.

The activities for 27 December started with yoga and then led to the first motivational session. The path to success handled by Prof Leena Varghese ,Department of Commerce. Mr Rajeesh of the Vigilance and Anti Correction Bureau then took a session on ‘Role of Youth in Elimination of corruption. After cleaning the programme, work on the magazine and cultural activities ensured.

On the 28th December, Yoga a free Ayurvedic Medical Camp in association with Sudheedra Ayruveda Hospital, Ernakulam was inaugurated by Mrs. Sajitha Abbas, President, Edathala Panchayath. More than 100 people got the benefit of medical camp. In the afternoon Dr George Varghese, clinical Psychologist spoke on ‘Teenage and
Mental Health’. A folk song session led by Prof Sabuji Department of Malayalam come next. Another debate on ‘Digital India- Prospects and Challenges’ was conducted.

On the 29th December, after yoga and volunteers shared their experiences and then were dispersed for camp cleaning. The valedictory session presided over by the Principal Dr Anita Nair. Inaugurated by Sri. Aslaf Pareekadan, Member District Panchayath, Ernakulam. Sri Smijan from Kerala Kaumudy released the camp magazine ‘Asahaniyam’ .Awards were given for the best camper and best worker and the camp dispersed after lunch.
