In order to spread the idea of waste management based on the concept  “reduce, reuse, and recycle” among our students, The Nature club, Al-Ameen College had conducted an inter-department competition- ‘Ramaneeyam‘. Through the competition, all the departments were directed to beautify their department in an eco-friendly way, strictly adhering to the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle. Here reducing means minimizing the amount of waste we create. Reuse refers to using items more than once. Recycle means putting a product to a new use instead of throwing it away.

All the departments in our college have actively participated in the competition and they beautified their classrooms and departments with modified waste. Through this program, we could make everyone plant saplings in the waste materials and modify them in order to repurpose them. The project illustrates how waste materials can be used for beautification purposes.

The winners of the competition were selected based on the following criteria –

  • Neatness and beauty,
  • Adherence to the concept reduce, reuse and recycle,
  • Arrangement and synchronization and Innovative ideas.

The department of Biotechnology won the 1st prize for the Ramaneeyam competition and was selected as the Eco-friendly department of our college. 2nd prize and 3rd prize were won by the Department of Computer science and the Department of Mathematics. This contest was organized by the nature club coordinator Ms Alphy Nisa Steaphen with the help of other members of the club.
