The Department of Chemistry organized an orientation program for competitive examinations for BSc Chemistry students on 19th March 2024. Dr. Arun Gopi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Oceanography at the Marine Campus of CUSAT, was the resource person. The primary objective of the session was to guide students in achieving their career goals at national-level institutions and to help them understand how to prepare effectively.
Dr. Gopi provided an overview of various postgraduate entrance exams, including JAM, GATE, ICAR, and those conducted by various IITs, as well as information about national institutes such as IITs and NITs. He discussed the benefits of each entrance exam, how to prepare for them, and the exam schedules. The goal of the program was to make students aware of these competitive examinations and emphasize the importance of attending them. He also explained how scores and cut-off marks are calculated.
Dr. Gopi emphasized that as petrochemical students, it is crucial to aim for high GATE scores. He suggested that students consider subject-oriented coaching classes offered by his institution in Kochi to enhance their preparation.
A total of fifty-five students from the first and second year of BSc Chemistry attended the program. The session was highly interactive, with Dr. Gopi addressing numerous student queries. The students left the session enlightened and well-informed about their future academic and career opportunities.
