The women Cell , Al Ameen College in association with KSWDC   has observed The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 26th November 2021,  Mindful Meditation with Surya Ishaan, for combating all forms of discrimination and violence against women. Dr.Shaniba M H, Convener, Women Cell has extended a warm welcome to the audience. Dr.Cini Kurian , Principal presided over the programme. Mrs.Surya Ishaan, Member, Transgender Justice Board of Kerala and a well-known trans rights activist and TV actor, who doesn’t hesitate to identify herself as a transgender addressed the students.Surya and Ishaan K Shan have become flag-bearers of the transgender community, as they are the first couple set to tie the knot in Kerala. She talked about the humiliation faced by transgender community in Kerala and how she overcame it. She knew it was not easy for a transgender to live a life in her own terms in Kerala as the state is still conservative in its approach to gender minorities. All members of these groups face severe discrimination and harassment in all respects in our society and they are subjected to many unfair treatments. She said that after a long years of battle to get own identity, winds of change are blowing all over, with transgender people gradually getting the acknowledgement after decades of societal stigma.
