World diabetes day is a primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes mellitus and is held on 14th November every year led by International Diabetes Federation (IDF). This day marks the birthday of Frederick Banting who along with Charles Best and John James, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin.

Type 2 diabetes is largely preventable and treatable. It is a non-communicable disease that is rapidly increasing in number worldwide.

Department of Biotechnology, Al-Ameen College Edathala, organized World Diabetes Day on 20 November 2019. The major objective of the programme was to provide awareness about issues related to Diabetes such Diabetes and life style, Diabetes and obesity, Diabetes in the disadvantaged and the vulnerable and Diabetes in children and adolescents.  The programme started by 10.30 am and was inaugurated by the college Principal Prof Sasidharan M B. Mrs.Rahimol Ramesh, HOD, Dept of Biotechnology felicitated the event.

As part of the campaign the Dept of Biotechnology conducted a programme to check the Blood Sugar level, BMI and Blood pressure. All staff and the local people in Edathala Grama Panchayath were there to attend the programme. The programme was a grand success and met with the most favourable response.
