Department of Economics Conducted a Service Learning programme for the inmates of SoS Children’s Village Edathala from 3/2/2021-27/2/2021. Service learning benefits not only the students but the surrounding community as well and it is mutually beneficial to everyone involved. It offers students a chance to connect what they are learning with action, while at the same time helping to improve the lives of others around them. Through this educational approach a student learns theories in the classroom and at the same time he volunteers to be a teacher for others in the community. In order to integrate community into education, student masters Mohammed Unais ( I BA Economics) and Fathima Nuzarath (III BA Economics) gave special coaching in Statistics for the children studying in Plus one. The classes were conducted during their study leave for Plus One Examination. Children pointed out their difficult areas and student teachers gave effective crash course and prepared them for the exam. The programme was very beneficial for our students as it enhanced opportunities for learning and personal and social skill development.
