Department of Economics organized a seminar on “Whether India is Passing through Economic Slowdown” on 18.12.2019. Dr. Martin Patrick,Chief Economist, Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) Kochi, was the main speaker. Dr.Shaniba M.H, Head of Department extended warm welcome and introduced the topic. The seminar started with critical analysis on Indian economic conditions and reasons behind the economic slowdown by Dr. Martin Patrick. Seminar deliberated large number of areas including demonetization, inflation, Goods and Service Tax, increasing unemployment rate, fall in GDP growth rate, deterioration of agricultural sector, remedial measures to correcting economic conditions etc.

At the end of the seminar, there was an interactive session with the students. The students expressed their view points towards the economic condition and raised various doubts regarding the measures taken by the government in order to correct economic slowdown and boost the economy .The moderator concluded the seminar stating India’s economy needs fundamental structural reforms. Dr.Abdul Hakkeem proposed the vote of thanks.
