The outbreak of corona virus in china has become a global concern. It came from a sea food and meat market in Wuhan, China in December. It has since spread to other countries, including India. The covid -19 virus is a member of the corona virus family that made the jump from animals to human beings late last year.

Major precautionary steps in preventing corona virus infection is to wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and by using a sanitizer while getting home or while at work. Since the epidemic outbreak causes the shortage of sanitizers in hospitals and other public sectors, there lies an increasing demand for this life saving droplets.

In this scenario the department of biotechnology, Al-Ameen College, Edathala decided to be a part of ‘Break the Chain’ campaign, by providing sanitizers. The department HOD Ms. Rahimol Ramesh led the initiative and rest of the staff in the department joined her whole heartedly in the mission. The department started making sanitizer on 16 march 2020. The product was named as Al-Tech sanitizer. 30 liters of sanitizer was prepared and packed into labeled bottles in a quantity of 100 ml.

On 17 March 2020, the entire mission was completed and was distributed to Ernakulam General hospital, Edathala police station, Edathala Panchayath, SBI Aluva, Federal bank Aluva and Edathala police control room.
