The creation of periodic table was one of the most inevitable inventions in the history of  the discipline of Chemistry. In 1869 Russian Scientist Dimitri Mendeleev presented a list of 36 elements in a table. He also foretold the discovery of other elements, and left spaces open in his periodic table for them. It changed the perspectives regarding chemical elements and atomic mass and paved the way for over two centuries of growth in the understanding of chemical properties. To commemorate this unique invention UNESCO proclaimed 2019 as the International Year of Periodic Table of chemical elements (IYPT-2019).

As part of this, Department of Chemistry, Al-Ameen College celebrated IYPT 2019 on 19 th December 2019 in the campus. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Leji Latheef (HOD, Department of Chemistry). She spoke about the importance of periodic table in the progress of modern science and its contribution to illustrate the recurring trends in the properties of the elements. Students of the department setup a banner to announce the campaign and organised a rally to demonstrate the periodic table by wearing masks of each element in the periodic table. A flash mob was also conducted. A still model of Human Periodic Table was also constructed by students.
