When the NSS volunteers of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, planned to celebrate their Christmas with Okhi-hit fishermen in the State. The NSS unit decided to drop the colour from their celebrations and added humanity and social commitment to collect enough money from college PTA, management and their friends to buy three septic tanks to three fishermen families at Chellanam, one of the worst-hit coastal areas in Ernakulam. Students, with the
help of local residents, installed the tanks, bringing a smile of relief to the families who were yet to recover from the tragedy. NSS programme officers; Prof.ShahanoorBeegum and Prof.Abdul Salam stood with the volunteers, providing guidance. College Manager Dr M.I. Junaid Rahman, Principal Dr Anita Nair, Chellanam village Panchayat president Mercy Josy, Vice-President K.D. Prasad, College Vice Principal Prof. M. B. Sasidharan others participated.
