Department of Chemistry organized a webinar on the topic “Future Refinery-Process and Material Challenges” on 16th September 2020 on Google meet. The aim of the program was to give an awareness among students, about various refining processes in refinery and also the challenges faced by the same. The resource person for the session was Dr. Aniz C Ummer, Research Scientist, Centre for Refining and Petrochemicals, King Fahad University, KSA. The speaker explained about the basics of petroleum refining and the future of petrochemical industry. The oil demand for petrochemicals is expected to increase in the next two decades. The speaker explained about the strong challenges faced by the refineries due to uncertainties about future feedstock and characteristics of oil products. Around 40 students attended the session. The students interacted well with the resource person, and the session was useful in imparting an exquisite idea about the future refinery process ad challenges. Dr. Sibinimol P A, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Chemistry, proposed the vote of thanks.
